Advent at GC

Consider this Advent devotional an invitation to dream with God. Use your holy imagination to envision new possibilities, new creation, and a future that is different from the present, for yourself and our world.

We are looking at the Incarnation up close. We anticipate seeing a fuller picture of the surprising ways God shows up in our world. The God we serve is both wild and peaceful, hidden and visible, humble and powerful.

We hope this Advent devotional encourages our community to hold space for both our weariness and our joy, imagine ways to practice joy in a weary world, and remember that our joy comes from knowing we are beloved and belong to God.

We chose “Rooted’ for our Advent theme to keep us grounded in our bodies, to remind ourselves that we belong to God and one another, to help us tend to the health of our soil/spirits, and to keep us connected to the source of life: Father, Son, and Spirit.

We chose "Overshadowed" for our Advent theme to help improve our night vision, our ability to see God in the dark, and to remind us we live in the shadow of the Almighty. We pray this devotional helps you discover God's presence in light and darkness.

“Behold” draws our attention so that we’re focused on what follows, and tells us to notice something or someone important. We hope this devotional helps you behold God’s presence all around you and within you, and enables you to behold the One beholding you.

We hope this devotional helps you celebrate God’s presence with us on our pilgrimage to our true home. God desires to be with us, and there is no barrier able to separate us from God’s love.

We hope this devotional helps you learn to wait with expectation and begin to watch and prepare for the arrival of our King, who is worthy of all creation’s praise.
