“There are plenty of churches for older brothers, but not many for prodigals.”

“There are plenty of churches for older brothers, but not many for prodigals.”

I will never forget those words of a speaker I heard nearly thirty years ago.

Ever since, I have aspired to lead Christians to love people incredibly well – as Jesus did.

This Sunday at the Gathering Church we will look at one of the best-known stories Jesus ever told, the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Luke 15:1-32.

He had to say something.

The wrong sorts of people were following him, were traveling with him. The kind of people that God should reject. Why did Jesus not care more about God’s perspective?

Few people imagine that ‘church’ should be like an incredible party.

It is hard for many of us to imagine the unbounded
joy of God.

How do we love people the way Jesus did?

How do we receive that love ourselves?

How do we resist a relationship with God that is more bound by obligation?

How do we join the party?

Or better, yet, how do we join God in hosting it?

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.
