This Sunday – Nov 1

Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour.

We have been having a special experience each Sunday morning as we come together. It’s great to see new folks coming each week and connecting right away through the lunch we have afterwards. It’s nice to be known, isn’t it? It’s nice to get to know others, to not be a stranger at church.

This Sunday we will look at a passage in the Gospel of John (Jn 1:43-51).

Have you ever invited someone to church and they’ve been honest enough to express some skepticism about your invitation? People are usually too kind to answer an invitation with a negative comment. But, not Nathaniel, a friend of Phillip. Phillip invites Nathaniel to come meet Jesus and Nathaniel says, “Are you kidding me?”

It’s very interesting how Phillip responds, and even more so how Jesus responds when Nathaniel does come to meet him. There are so many great people lessons in this passage, it’s going to be hard for me to choose which ones to emphasize. Personally, I can find ways to identify with Phillip, with Nathaniel, and I want to find ways to identify with Jesus in this passage. I am excited about this Sunday. A neat thing is that our lunch gives us an opportunity to express the lessons of the passage immediately.
