Tales of Twos

Tales of Twos

I found out that you can be lying in the bed with three beautiful women and that won’t be enough.  You can have millions of dollars in the bank and carry enough cash to buy you anything your mind can imagine, and it won’t be enough.  You can walk into any restaurant in town and they put your name up at the tope of the list.  Or people can come up to you and call you Sir, and ask for your autograph, and everybody is wanting to be around you all the time, but that won’t be enough.”

-Deion Sanders in Power, Money, & Sex: How Success  Almost Ruined My Life

Perhaps no one can tell more vividly what “storing up treasures in heaven” can do to your life than those in our culture who are rapidly given such wealth (and in many cases see their wealth leave just as rapidly).

This week, Jesus gives us a few teachings, stories about our lives on earth and our expectation for the kingdom.  Each of these stories show two very different ways of living: there’s the “Tale of Two Treasures,” “The Tale of Two Eyes,” and the “Tale of Two Masters.”  Each calls us to ask which story we embody?

Come this Sunday, but don’t just expect a sermon bemoaning the horrors of money or things.  This isn’t a shake-down.  Rather, come to hear about Jesus’ vision for good living- eternal, abundant life.  Life primed to live well in the kingdom.  A life reaching out for God and his reign that is so close, so available, you might say that it’s within an arm’s reach.
