Learning to Listen

“All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.”

-Colossians 1:6

These words about ‘the gospel’ growing all over the world were spoken to people who were not among the original followers of Jesus by someone who had not been an original follower either. Yet their lives had all been changed by ‘’this gospel.’

The message about who Jesus was and what he had done was so powerful that it spilled out everywhere. God had done something in Jesus that was now available for all people.

But, today, many find the message about Jesus either irrelevant or objectionable.

This Sunday at the Gathering Church, we’re going to ask ‘why?’. In the message series Free for Freedom: Removing Roadblocks to Life with God, we have been considering the roadblocks to a fuller life with God that Christians run into. This Sunday, we’re going to consider some roadblocks that those who don’t believe in God or Jesus may have.

A couple of my friends are going to help us.

One describes himself as an agnostic. The other believes in God, but not in Christ. They have agreed to allow me to interview them. We hang out together most Wednesday nights and often have these sorts of conversations.

How can we express the greatness of Christ to others?  We have to learn to listen first.

Come practice this Sunday.
