Getting Ready

Getting Ready

On September 14 the Gathering Church will be taking a big step as it launches a new congregation, Oak Church, which will begin Sunday services the following week in the Lakewood community of Durham.  Associate Pastor Chris Breslin will be the church-planting pastor of this new work.

The former church, Lakewood Baptist, and the Yates Baptist Association have graciously made their location available with the hope of seeing a thriving church love and serve that community.

Why would a church as young as the Gathering Church, still meeting in a school, still developing its own ministry, take such a big and costly step?

Simply speaking, there is a need, there is an opportunity, there is a vision, and glad to say, a will to spend our most valuable resources for the sake of someone else.

This Sunday we will get ready by looking at 2 Kings 7:3-11.  It is the story of God’s determination to bring life to others.  And as usual, the heroes are very unlikely people.

Historic moments in the life of a church are special.  Especially when they involve risk and cost.  They really become special, though, when God shows up.

And action that comes from faith is the best invitation for God.

Let’s get ready.
